I realise this photo is not that good, but considering it was taken in the wrong camera setting and out of the window, climbing the Montague Pass, I’m fairly happy with it.
We think they are Ground Woodpeckers, but are happy to be told otherwise..
They flew away, as a pair – just hopped off the ledge and swooped downwards, out of sight. I twisted round in my seat and took this one… Mostly there is only room for one vehicle, but we only passed a few! Montague is a ‘scenic’ pass, not one people use daily to go to work! It was worth the drive, but I would probably have had more fun if we were not in a borrowed (uninsured) vehicle!
Look at this cute old railway bridge – we sat there for some time and I photographed the flowers and rock features without panicking I was blocking the traffic!
Flowers – just growing up against the towering cliff face
And water…just leaking out of the rocks.
Ive no idea what this flower is – probably pretty common, but lovely none the less…
Your ID of the birds is spot on… Did this pass many many years ago… would love to do it again one day…
We didn’t get anywhere near until a FB friend thought it was an Olive Woodpecker – I didn’t think to look for a woodpecker nowhere near a tree!
The Montague Pass was very nice and we chose it because I like to stop and take photos – I like to that without a thirty tonne truck driving up my exhaust pipe! The road was in very good condition (compared with Zim roads!)
If you need help with bird ID… I’ll help anytime…
Thanks – pl check my ID on this blog of the Robin – it could be wrong –
Give me a link to the post and I will with pleasure…

In fact, perhaps would you mind checking them all! I have a stack of pics, but I often don’t post because people ask me what they are???
