I’ve really struggled to get a decent shot of one of these birds until today…
When two of them just hopped over to the dog’s bowl and began pecking at lumps of sadza…
When I think of the hours I have stalked these birds! They are usually heard first, but hard to get a shot at. Elusive, they hop about in the shrubbery and then, when I have missed any number of shots, fly rapidly away to cackle from a tree, just out of camera range.
Loosely translated, their name is “women’s laughter…” in the local language and they do sound like a great gaggle of women having fun!
Im not sure if they were making their nest…Im told its a communal one….but who cares…I hid in the kitchen doorway, with only my lens poking through until someone walked passed…this final one as they flew away:
Wonderful snaps and I had forgotten about feeding the dogs Sadza which is wonderful graze,
Yes – its also the food chain…I eat it, then give it to the dogs, then the chickens (usually) eat it!
Thanks for the laugh, chickhens eh?
Foshuwa!
They make a noise too 🙂
Yup – just like my family!
